Forest Whitaker cast as Desmond Tutu
Oscar winner Forest Whitaker has joined the cast of Roland Joffe's 'The Archbishop and the Antichrist' where he play real-life Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
Adapting Michael Ashton's play, the film merges the factual central character with a fictional tale of his meeting with a South African mass murderer who is apparently looking to salvage his soul. The backdrop of the country's Truth and Reconcilliation hearings will be used by Joffe.
Joffe directed two outright classics back to back in the 80s - 'The Killing Fields' and 'The Mission' but since then his career has been patchy with misses like 'The Scarlet Letter' and 'Captivity' marring his CV.
The last time Whitaker played a real-life character he won an Oscar - he starred as
Idi Amin in 'The Last King of Scotland' back in 2008.
Speaking in Berlin, Joffe also revealed details of another project he is preparing, 'In God We Trust': "It’s a thriller about stealing a country, manipulating money but also about the desire to kill your parents - sometimes those things go together."
